妮可（安妮特·貝寧飾演）和朱爾斯（朱麗安·摩爾飾演）是一對女同性戀，他們相處了很長的時間，而且她們有能力面對著所有的人生中的高高低低。妮可有一份壓力很大的工作，這種壓力常常使得她忽視了朱爾斯的生活。朱爾斯覺得自己總是受困于母親的角色，于是她決定要開一家屬于自己的花店。可是妮可卻對這種事情毫無手段。

　　她們的孩子——通過人工捐精獲得的精子得到的孩子，姐姐喬妮正在念書，她是一個優(yōu)秀的好學生，正要進入大學念書；弟弟萊塞只有15歲，正是反叛的年齡，他大多是時間里都和自己的玩伴在一起度過。

　　有一天，萊塞向姐姐建議，他想和那個捐出自己精子的男人見一面，畢竟在生物學上，他才是自己的父親。因為姐姐已經到了18歲，她有權利向家里提出這個要求。于是他的媽媽們滿足的他的要求——可是見面之后會發(fā)生什么呢？這個平靜而美滿的家庭會因此出現(xiàn)裂縫么？



影片參加了2010年的圣丹斯電影節(jié)，并且在電影節(jié)上找到了買家。影片的發(fā)行版權以480萬美元的價格被焦點影業(yè)買走，成為了這屆圣丹斯上最值錢的電影。
